It is very important to have a high-quality amplifier in your audio chain in order to enjoy the best speakers and sources. In my opinion, as I have reviewed, Arcam SA20 is a well-featured amplifier. This unit retails for $1650 and has five analogue inputs, one of which is a moving magnet phono stage. Three RCA inputs are included, one of which is configured as an HD bypass input, making it the perfect amplifier for home theatre installations. There is also an AUX input on the front panel. You get to play with 7 different digital filters when listening to your music with this device. It also has a 32-bit DAC powered by a Saber chipset with three digital signals, two coaxes, and one optical. 

It has one set of RCA  inputs as well for using this unit as a preamp and powering an external amp or you could use that to connect subwoofers. The advertised output is 90 watts x 2 channels into 8 ohms (20-20,000 Hz) at 0.5% THD, efficient high-voltage Class G amplifier, THD: 0.002% (80% power, 8 ohms at 1kHz). And the size and weight of the amplifier are manageable. It’s compact and weighs about 20 pounds. The Arcam technical pitch not implemented this class g amplifier topology. This is to explain this very simply in layman’s terms during low to moderate listening levels the amp operates in class A, at higher listening levels, it draws power from additional dedicated rails to supply the extra juice.

Design & Build Quality of Arcam SA20

At first glance, the SA20 looks very similar to the SA30, and with good reason. The two amplifiers share a lot of the same design principles, but the SA20 is slightly smaller and has a lower weight of just 20 pounds. The SA20 has all the technical sophistication and sonic refinement that we have come to expect from a top-end amplifier. The sound is incredibly detailed with a wonderfully open and spacious soundstage. The bass is rich, full, and well-defined, while the midrange is crisp and clean. The treble is beautifully rendered, both articulate and detailed. We have no hesitation in recommending the SA20 to anyone who wants the best that money can buy.
